Housing & design study with three concepts for a direct-mode radio device
A radio operating in Direct Mode communicates independently of the network, without a repeater and without any infrastructure in between. The communications engineering behind it is a task for specialists, while product development is what turns it into a usable device.
Setup
A direct-mode radio can communicate directly with other devices without a network or repeater. The electronics had already been developed and now needed to be brought into line with the product design.
Assignment
Based on a functionally tested PCB design, several design proposals were created first. The existing electronics were then adapted to fit the constraints of the form.
The housing and all components were then fully engineered and manufactured in-house. Several iterations of different prototypes were built and tested.
Result
A functional prototype was manufactured with the existing electronics in the fully engineered housing. Not a mock-up.
