Adapter plate for central mounting bracket assembly
Mounting systems for navigation systems on vehicles are designed for a specific recommended type and are therefore not equally suitable for all systems. The lack of such an interface arises simply from the sheer number of systems available.
Setup
An existing navigation device was to be centrally connected to the vehicle-specific mounting plate of a motorcycle. As the adapter remains visible once installed, a fitting design was required in addition to correct fit.
Assignment
First, the real situation on the motorcycle and the real situation on the navigation device were designed. The adapter plate was precisely matched to the motorcycle's design on the motorcycle side, and the distance to the navigation device mount was then built up step by step. The mount had to match the geometry of the bracket exactly, and the connection had to use the existing fixing points. As the component remains visible, its shape was part of the engineering design task; the plate was to blend into the motorcycle's design rather than look like a makeshift solution.
Result
A functioning adapter plate, implemented in 2023. The bracket and mounting plate can now be combined without any modification to either part. The appearance and design were judged to be part of the motorcycle. The manufacturing method was chosen to match the design.
