Electrode Holder — Housing for Textile-Integrated Electrodes
In medical technology, electrodes are worn on the body, and because technical components must adapt to human shapes for ergonomic reasons, textiles are also used for this purpose. This presents the challenge of permanently joining rigid components with soft textiles.

Setup
On one hand, a technically fixed electrode had to be integrated into a new housing. On the other hand, this housing then had to form a permanent, stable connection with an existing textile.
Assignment
First, the electrode and textile were digitised and modelled. Then a housing was designed around the electrode and tested in connection with the textile. The challenge was to maintain the connection and ensure functionality even with a highly flexible textile. The component, less than 2 cm in diameter, combines within the smallest space the housing for the electrode and holder, the cable routing, the clamping of the textile, channels for applying a saline solution, and a cover that neatly conceals the technical functions. The saline solution can be applied without removing the electrode.
The component ultimately consisted of hard and soft plastics. Prototypes and tests were carried out in-house. A DFM was subsequently conducted and a small batch was produced.
Result
The housing passed all tests, met all the requirements set, and was manufactured as a small batch following the prototype phase.
